Comparing Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty and High Tibial Osteotomy for Isolated Medial Compartme

Conclusions

Both UKA and HTO allow for compartment-specific intervention to the arthritic knee joint. This preserves bone stock and native soft tissue compared with a TKA. Both operations give a more natural feeling with more native proprio- ception compared with a TKA. Delineat- ing between either UKA or HTO remains difficult, primarily because of expanding indications for both procedures. The overlap in patient population that is eligi- ble for either UKA or HTO allows for opportunity for shared decision-making. Patient decision aids are used to help inform patients of multiple interventions for a condition, with the aim of educating patients and helping form a surgical pref- erence without worsening decisional con- flict. These decision aids have been used with success in smaller studies of medial knee OA with treatment options includ- ing UKA or TKA97. The development of a decision aid for UKA or HTO is an area of potential future work given the overlap in patient population and outcomes.https://www.youror.agency/group/jeddah-trauma-team/discussion/8afbcb22-8f67-412b-bf83-930a3179666f
